More than 10,000 people have participated in telescopic observations made in Molina during the International Year of Astronomy (27/11/2009)

The City of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Commerce, Handicrafts and Tourism, in collaboration with the Scientific Molina Astronomical Society, has offered to citizens during the International Year of Astronomy 2009, the possibility of viewing sky, as it did 400 years ago Galileo Galilei.

Molinense over 10,000 have participated throughout the year in the program of municipal activities.

Monthly, using the best times of the Moon and planets, a battery of telescopes and astronomical binoculars has traveled throughout Spain molinense.

Activities began in January with the opening of the International Year of Astronomy, held at the Cultural Center Las Balsas.

The first activity was devoted to meteorites, as they commemorated the 150 anniversary of the fall of the largest meteorite known in Spain, at Christmas of 1858 crossed the skies finally Murcia landfall in the hamlet of Campotéjar molinense, and which is currently National Museum of Science.

During these opening hours were made at both conferences and exhibitions as an observation in the privileged terrace / gazebo in the center, with the participation of 600 people.

During the following months all have installed powerful telescopes and astronomical binoculars Molina Scientific Astronomical Society and the Astronomical Observatory of La Murta, at the following locations: Park Company, The Alcayna, La Ribera de Molina, The Landing, San Antonio , Altorreal, San Miguel, El Llano de Molina and Molineta.

As pointed out by the Councillor for Tourism, Sonia Carrillo Marble, "from this council will continue working with Molina Scientific Astronomical Society to bring science to the entire population molinense."

All types of telescopes, refractors (lens telescopes), Newtonian (mirror telescopes, invented by Isaac Newton himself) and modern telescopes reflectors, along with the highest astronomical binoculars (25x150), have enabled thousands of people making first observation of our planetary environment and stellar observations in an urban environment, demonstrating that, while it is desirable to preserve the dark sky astronomical observations to improve, conserve energy and protect nature at night, this does not prevent any person may enjoy from your home of these celestial wonders.

The stars of the sky were observed by thousands of molinense no more effort to get closer to the telescopes, where, at the hands of enthusiastic astronomers, they reveal the secrets of the cosmos and the curiosities of the universe, as the International Year of Astronomy is, UNESCO proposal as approved by the UN General Assembly, a celebration of these four years of discovery since Galileo first looked through a telescope, revolutionizing our understanding of the Cosmos.
