The Medical Research Foundation Molina de Segura organizes a popular science lecture on autism on Tuesday March 23 (18/03/2010)

Both events will be held in the auditorium of the College of Education Child Paseo Rosales

Medical Research Foundation of Molina de Segura (FEM) presented at a press conference today, Thursday 18 March, the next two popular science lectures (the number 51 and 52), to be held in Molina de Segura (room acts of the College of Education Child Paseo Rosales, with free admission) Tuesday March 23, 2010, at 19:00, under the title of World Day of Awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorders.

What we know of them, led by Dr. Manuel Posada de la Paz, Head of Research for Rare Diseases at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III of Madrid, and on Thursday March 25, 2010, at 20.00 am, the title of Multiple Sclerosis: new treatments, led by Dr. Xavier Montalban Gairín, Head of Neurology Unit of the Chiron Clinic of Barcelona and Head of Clinical Neuroimmunology Unit, Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, which will be presented by Dr. Eduardo Alias Linares, Head of Neurology, Hospital Morales Meseguer of Murcia.

The conference is organized by the WEF, the Municipality of Molina de Segura and the Hospital de Molina, sponsored by the Caixa.

The presentation was made by Worship Molina López, Councillor of the City Social Welfare molinense, José Manuel Herrero Navarro, Psychologist, Educator and Director of Specific EOEP Autism and other severe developmental disorders of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, Sunday Menchón Serna, Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital de Molina, and Josefina García Lozano, Secretary of the EMF.

Manuel Posada de la Paz leads the area of Clinical Genetics and Birth Defects (gcdc) Research Institute of Rare Diseases (IIER), the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

This research group is active in the following areas: descriptive epidemiology, laboratory and genetic evaluation of results of health research, Autism Spectrum Disorders, environmental risk factors and autoimmune diseases.

For his part, Xavier Montalban Gairín made the period a resident in Neurology at the Hospital Universitario Vall d'Hebron.

Later, he moved as a research fellow at St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he performed the first studies of antiphospholipid antibodies and endothelial anticélula neurological patient populations.

He founded the first laboratory of neuroimmunology in 1992 with the help of a grant from the Health Research Fund.

The most important scientific achievements were initially in the field of antiphospholipid antibodies and neurology, and thereafter in multiple sclerosis.

The research activity in MS has been extensive and productive and has covered different aspects of both clinical and neuropsychological and immunological and genetic.

This activity has resulted in the publication of more than 100 articles in prestigious journals.

A member of various scientific and executive committees of several international societies such as the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis Societies (IFMSS), European Charcot Foundation, the Clinical Trials Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis Societies, the European Federation of Neurological Societies and the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS), among others.

In 2009 was elected to the Board of ECTRIMS.

Belongs to editorial board of several national and international journals.
