The City of Molina de Segura informs the citizens of the adoption of preventive and corrective measures in application of the protocols for air pollution, which will be maintained at least during the whole day today, Friday, January 24.
As reported by the Councilor for the Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo, "early today (day 24) we have been informed by the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia of the overcoming of the levels of particle contamination in the two measurement stations that record the air quality in the urban agglomeration of Murcia, which includes part of our municipality: that of Murcia San Basilio and that of Alcantarilla, both have exceeded level 2 (Corrective) for the second day in a row. "
This situation, according to weather forecasts, will also be maintained throughout the 24th day, at least, so that the Municipal Action Framework Protocol applies in environmental episodes of contamination of NO2 and PM10 (Nitrogen Dioxide and Particles less than 10 microns ).
On this occasion the main responsible for these levels of particles is the intrusion of Saharan air due to a storm located to the southwest of the peninsula.
Industrial emissions, traffic and agricultural burns also contribute to the high level of PM10 particles.
These emissions of artificial pollutants would be aggravated in case of thermal inversion, in winter anticyclonic, in which there is a noticeable drop in night temperature.
For this reason, it is necessary to reduce artificial pollutant emissions and avoid risk situations through preventive and corrective measures that are more effective.
Municipal environmental technicians have evaluated the most appropriate measures contemplated in said protocol and have established the following as more appropriate for Molina de Segura:
Level 1 Measures (Preventive)
- It is recommended to avoid using the car in the city.
As an alternative it is proposed:
Use the public transport.
Both the urban Molina de Segura bus and the intercity lines throughout the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia will be free.
Use deterrent parking lots around the city.
- Avoid at all costs the burning of any type of waste, including the remains of pruning throughout the municipality.
- It is recommended that people with respiratory conditions or those with greater vulnerability avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor areas, and precautions are taken in the practice of outdoor sports.
Level 2 Measures (Corrective)
- The local police will act:
Identifying and sanctioning the burning.
Watching and giving traffic flow to avoid traffic jams.
- In driving:
Prolonged stops with the engine running will be avoided.
Double row parking will be avoided.
- The carriers:
They will avoid loading and unloading of goods during peak traffic hours and when they do they will do so with the engine off.
- Actions on public roads:
The use of blowers and machines for cleaning the road surface is prohibited on public roads.
- Communication actions:
Information will be transferred to health centers, Hospital de Molina, educational centers, nursing homes, sports centers and facilities, day centers, etc., to take precautions.
