The City of Molina de Segura and AFESMO present the new guide for the promotion of mental health in young people Open your Mind in Positive Mode (24/01/2020)

The new guide for teachers and families Open your Mind in Positive Mode.

Promotion of mental health in young people, promoted by the Molina and Comarca Mental Health Association (AFESMO), and the departments of Social Welfare and Citizen Participation of the City of Molina de Segura, through the Participatory Budgeting process, has been presented at a conference Press today, January 24, at the Municipal Plenary Hall.

The First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, the Vice President of AFESMO, Diego Yepes, and the guide's psychologist and coordinator, Javier Morales, attended the presentation.

The preparation of this guide is intended as a toolbox that helps increase the psychological and emotional well-being of young people.

It is aimed at fathers, mothers and teachers, and in it you can find recommendations to apply at home or in the classroom.

The project includes conducting talks to raise awareness and promote positive Mental Health, in different secondary education centers for young people between 12 and 14 who are studying 2nd, 3rd and 4th of the ESO.

There are many worrisome facts about youth mental health, such as the advancement of the age of onset of alcohol or other drug use, addictions to technology, gambling or gambling, bullying, harassment through of social networks or suicide rate in young people.

All these problems can contribute to generate diseases and pathologies both physical and mental.

As explained by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro, "there are already guides, publications and specialized resources on these issues, and in this Guide we would not have space to address each of them, because we have tried to provide a somewhat different vision and we hope that it would complement; focusing on the promotion of healthy habits as a way to prevent the appearance of these problems ".

Increasing healthy habits will reduce the presence of unhealthy habits and, therefore, reduce the risk of mental health problems or difficulties and increase protective resources against the same difficulties.
