The Molina de Segura City Council presents the twentieth edition of the Molina Environmental Education Program, Discover your surroundings (15/09/2020)

| Act against climate change is the central message of the offer of activities for educational centers, at this stage in which evidence that we must preserve the environmental health of our surroundings to preserve our health | The Environmental Education Service of the Department of the Environment of the Molina de Segura City Council launches the twentieth edition of the Molina Environmental Education Program, Discover your environment, aimed at the municipality's educational centers, with a new proposal for the 2020/2021 course.

The initiative was presented at a press conference, today Tuesday, September 15, in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, by the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, and the Councilor for the Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo. The current health crisis prevented the full development of the last edition of the program.

In this new course that is now beginning, still immersed in this crisis, the Molina de Segura City Council continues with its commitment to environmental education, highlighting the need for the involvement of society in preserving the environmental health of our environment to preserve our health and in the fight against climate change. Molina, Discover your environment offers educational centers an offer of activities as a resource for the incorporation of environmental education in the educational project of the center and in the didactic programs.

The proposed activities will be developed in accordance with the protection and security measures against COVID-19, indicated by the health authorities and following the instructions and protocols established by Education.

Likewise, non-face-to-face alternatives are envisaged, which can be implemented if necessary. In this edition the focus is maintained on the fight against climate change, proposing an educational offer to publicize the reality that is being lived both locally and globally and promote attitudes that lead the educational community to get involved in this important challenge . The program aims to connect the local reality and the management of the urban, natural and rural environment with the major environmental issues, with special emphasis on their relationship with climate change and health.

It is aimed at all levels of Primary and Secondary Education and aims to be a complete didactic proposal with previous and subsequent activities and recommendations and resources to help teachers to complement the activity and give it continuity in the classroom. For this, the Department of the Environment has designed a proposal structured in two blocks.

The first, Discover your city, where topics such as air pollution, sustainable development, environmental health, responsible consumption, good environmental practices in relation to the consumption and management of water, the generation of waste or the use of energy, linking all this with climate change and the city.

At the same time, it is proposed, for the secondary stage, the development of the Reduce your footprint project, to work on the calculation of the center's carbon footprint, in order to propose the adoption of emission reduction and compensation measures. The second block, Discover the natural spaces of Molina de Segura, aims to promote knowledge of the most unique natural spaces of the municipality, such as the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, the protected area ZEPA Las Lagunas de Campotéjar-Salar Gordo or the river's fluvial ecosystem Segura and its groves, especially the Soto de la Hijuela, to try to discover its biodiversity and highlight its natural and cultural values, focused on its conservation and its contribution to the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. The Councilor for the Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo, wants to give his "most sincere gratitude to the educational community, especially in these special circumstances, for their involvement and collaboration in the environmental improvement of our city, educating in responsible attitudes and behavior towards the environment, health and against climate change.
